It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glenn R. Bruhn Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who left this world peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on December 13, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on October 21, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia, Glenn lived a life rich in love, laughter, and service.
Glenn was the cherished son of the late Junior M. and Esther (Christopher) Bruhn. He is predeceased by his dear son, Joseph Bruhn. Glenn was a devoted husband to his wife, Barbara (St. John) Bruhn, with whom he shared an incredible 61 years of marriage. Their bond was one of deep love and mutual respect, a true testament to partnership that flourished over the decades.
He is survived by his two beloved daughters: Kathy Bass, who was married to the late Ray Bass; Christine Sweet and her husband, Timothy Sr.; and his cherished grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Glenn's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Joshua Bruhn and his wife Rebekah, Peter Pollino and his wife Fedra, Kellie Pollino, Crystal Beique, Justin Otis and his wife Adriana, Steven Otis, Jason Sweet, Marcus Bruhn, Glenn Bruhn III, and Ryan Bruhn; proud great-grandfather to 16 great-grandchildren. Also survived by a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Libby; 3 beloved sisters, Marcia Vincent, Sheila Johnson, and Patricia Gordon and 6 nieces.
Glenn was a man of many talents, having served honorably in the United States Navy as a cook, where he honed his passion for cooking and food. His love for culinary arts was not just a profession but a way to bring family and friends together. He enjoyed hosting cookouts and was known for his ability to prepare delicious meals that everyone cherished. He had an infectious enthusiasm for westerns and game shows, often filling the room with laughter and joy. His favorite song, "Temporary Home," resonates with many who knew him, a reflection of his perspective on life's journey.
Beyond his hobbies, Glenn was known for his warm spirit and the profound impact he had on those around him. His family and friends will always remember him for his heartfelt conversations, often punctuated by spontaneous singing of country music, bringing a sense of joy and comfort to those fortunate enough to be in his presence.
